On April 4, 2009, 439 children linked arms while enjoying PreGel's signature line of Happy Gelato flavors to form "the world's longest chain of children licking gelato." The record was set in a town in Austria at Bellini's Gelato Shop in Marchtrenk marking gelato's (also known as Italian ice cream) historic first entry into the Guinness Book of World Records.

The excitement wasn't limited to just one record as the shop was also able to set the record for "Iciest Fireman's Ladder in the World." The Fire Brigade of High Austria assisted while Bellini's produced a line of gelato trays as long as the fireman's ladder, which corresponded to 3,000-3,500 scoops of 58 different gelato flavors. Both records have received an official approval from the Guinness Book of World Records.

The attendance at the event was tremendous as parents and children sporting Happy Gelato t-shirts and caps assisted in the records and attended demonstrations by the Fire Brigade. Both the Austrian Red Cross and Fire Brigade of High Austria will receive the profits from the day's activities from Walter Wolfsegger, owner of Bellini's Gelato Shop. The success of the event is one many will remember for years to come.

Global specialty dessert ingredient supplier and business partner to Bellini's Gelato Shop, PreGel, is one company that will remember this day as it is thrilled to have its gelato flavor, Happy Gelato as the first-ever gelato in the book.

"Happy Gelato is a great brand we have built for the consumers, especially the children, to enjoy and have fun with, and we couldn't be more excited for it to be a part of this very exciting record. Our goal is for every child in the world, and particularly our newer market America to enjoy a Happy Gelato moment," said Dario Rabboni, board director of PreGel.

Happy Gelato features specialty gelato flavors, such as Happy Gelato Fruit (white chocolate gelato and Exotic Fruit Arabeschi®), that are part of a larger brand strategy by the company to begin to market to the business-to-consumer market. The Happy Gelato brand is intended for children, teenagers and parents alike, and also offers an interactive Web site and Happy Gelato Parties all over Europe. In fact, in 2009 they will have over 1000 Happy Gelato parties in Europe. With the success in Europe, PreGel will be bringing Happy Gelato to the U.S. in the summer of 2009. Happy Gelato will launch in the U.S. with the help of PreGel's subsidiary, PreGel AMERICA and will also include an American Happy Gelato Web site and over 200 Happy Gelato Parties across the U.S.

With all the global attention gelato has been receiving lately, it's not long before we see Happy Gelato making a new record.
